A nightly skincare ritual is essential for women to ensure beautiful, glowing skin. Regardless of whether or not you wear makeup, your skin is continuously exposed to oils and air pollution that can build up and clog pores. This can of course lead to breakouts (even after just one night), and will increase your chances of wrinkles, dryness, and irritated skin.
Sleeping in makeup intensifies this effect, acting as a barrier to keep in dirt, oil, bacteria and other irritants. With each day that goes by without washing, the build-up multiplies and your skin worsens.
But is a simple face wash enough?
Washing your face with water will definitely help with premature ageing, dryness, breakouts and potential infections. However, your best call of action is to employ a nightly skincare ritual. These few precious minutes can be the difference between good-looking skin and great-looking skin.
If you wear makeup, your first step should be to remove makeup with a quality makeup remover, lukewarm water and a cotton pad. This includes ALL makeup; leftover mascara, lipliner – everything. The makeup remover will assist with taking off all products on your face, while water removes the impurities and will rehydrate your skin.
“Left overnight, makeup can dehydrate and age your skin (making it look more wrinkly, blotchy and patchy), as it interrupts healthy skin cell turnover and interferes with night-time repair. Day-old makeup is sticky, making it a great trap for free radicals and for locking in irritants and keeping moisture out.”

And don’t forget to remove any foundation/powders that were blended on your neck – this is an oft-forgotten area and it shouldn’t be!
To balance the skin’s pH levels, it’s important to apply balancer. This will ensure your skin stays hydrated and won’t dry out. Moistening a cotton ball with toner and applying to your face will also help your skin to absorb the next products you apply.
Following washing your face, apply our Cheongidan Radiant Rejuvenating Balancer – best of all, you don’t need any cotton balls/pads! Just apply with your hands and leave to absorb; this reduces the amount of skin tugging which in turn reduces skin sagging.
Our balancer will turn dull and dark skin dewy and bright, and will prepare your skin for the next steps.
Gently massage a quality cleanser into your skin, and then wash thoroughly with warm water. The warm water will open the pores to allow dirt and bacteria to be released, and the cleanser will remove any dirt and debris still left on the skin.
Our Jinyulhyang Essential Moisturising Cleanser is perfect for removing stubborn dirt and grime and requires just a moderate amount when massaged using dry hands. It’s also considered a one-stop cleanser – it can remove light makeup, including sunblock and non-waterproof makeup. Rinse off the foam cleanser with warm water.
Did you know that an oil cleanser is recommended for those with oily skin? According to Daily Vanity, and even though it may seem counter-intuitive, an oil-based cleanser has the best affinity with oily skin and so works best at removing it.
Because there are no oil glands around the eye, using an eye cream will replenish the area and reduce puffiness and dark circles. Apply the cream to your ring finger and dab the skin gently.
Our Hwa Hyun Eye Cream improves wrinkles, and provides moisture and increased elasticity for the sensitive eye area.
Eye cream is proven to work best when applied via a ‘Dot and Tap’ approach. Simply add a small amount of eye cream to your ring finger, as this ensures a gentle pressure will be used when applying so as to reduce potential tugging, and dot the area around your eye with the cream. Then tap the dots lightly to spread the cream and help it absorb into the skin – do not smear and rub in, as this can result in the cream entering your eye and irritating the sensitive inner rims.
If you want your lips to be alluring and kissable, it’s important to moisturise them frequently to prevent them from becoming chapped and rough.
Gently wash your lips with warm water on a soft cloth to rehydrate, and gently rub to remove any dry and dead skin. Apply a lip balm to soften and heal lips if they appear chapped. If lips are really chapped, sweep a clean toothbrush gently across the lips.
For a highly emollient lip balm formulated with traditional Korean medicinal ingredients such as deer antlers and Korean angelica, our Gongjinhyang Mi Glow Lip Balm is the perfect choice for ensuring you have kissable lips.

The type of moisturiser you use will depend on your skin type – dry, sensitive or oily. A quality moisturiser will remove debris, dead skin, cells and pollutants, nourish with vitamins and minerals, soothe and rejuvenate the skin, help with cell regeneration and maintain normal pH levels.
And don’t forget to moisturise your neck and decolletage – this is where the first signs of ageing occur!
Did you know that you should moisturise your skin while it’s damp? This helps to lock in the additional moisture from the water into your skin.
Our Bichup Ja Yoon Cream is a multitasking cream which helps women target dull and wrinkled skin, achieving youthful and radiant skin from within. It is formulated with:
Moisturising your hands with a luxuriously thick hand cream will have your hands and nails looking fab in the morning, and this step takes no time at all. Night is your chance to undo the damage caused by the day’s activities, so make you you remedy your problem areas – the hands being one.
Your hair contains oils and dirt that can get on your face and pillowcase as you sleep. Over time, this exposure can cause breakouts. Keeping your hair pinned back as you sleep will help the pollutants off your face.
Your hair products could also be having an impact on your skin. The heavy silicones and moisturising agents that work so well for your hair may be having a negative effect on your skin. If you find that you break out in pimples a lot within a day or two of using certain hair products, we recommend you explore an alternative.
Sleep is food for your skin, and if you don’t get enough of it, you deprive your skin of nourishment. During a good night’s sleep your body works to remove dead blood cells, and clears the pathway for new synapses to take place. This is what gives your skin its glowing look.
